Wayne Rooney could have awkward meeting with Tom Brady as disparaging social media post resurfaces

Wayne Rooney is reportedly expected to be named as the new manager of Championship side Birmingham - but he may have an awkward upcoming meeting with Tom Brady if he gets the job.

The Blues parted company with previous boss John Eustace on Monday morning, despite the club currently occupying the final play-off place in the Championship.

The Midlands club secured a morale-boosting 3-1 win over rivals West Brom on Friday, and the decision did not go down well with a majority of Birmingham fans on social media.

In a statement announcing former Watford midfielder Eustace's departure, the club insisted: "A new First Team Manager will be announced in the coming days who will be responsible for creating an identity and clear 'no fear' playing style that all Birmingham City teams will adopt and embrace."

According to Sky Sports, that manager could well be Rooney, with the outlet reporting that Birmingham have approached the Manchester United legend over taking the job.

The former England captain departed MLS franchise DC United at the weekend, after failing to guide them to the MLS end-of-season play-offs.

But while the next appointment will be an ownership-led process, there may be one awkward moment between Rooney and Brady, an NFL legend.

Brady won the Super Bowl seven times and was named as its MVP on five occasions as an NFL quarterback, and is one of the most iconic sportspeople in history.

After retirement, he bought a minority stake in Birmingham following the acquisition of a significant shareholding in the club by Shelby Companies.

Rooney himself, however, once tweeted in 2012 that he wasn't a fan of watching NFL, in a rather blunt message.

He said: "Trying to watch super bowl final. How do they call this football. Like watching paint dry. Looking forward to adverts and music."

Back in the day, Rooney's Twitter account wasn't exactly a place for deep thoughts, though - although we did get to see his views on Whitney Houston, Mr Bean, One Direction and even safaris.

Rooney hasn't publicly commented on NFL since 2012, but did react after Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster copied his infamous 'punch' celebration after scoring a touchdown. Perhaps the United legend's views have changed over the years.
