Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand make feelings clear on Erik ten Hag after Man Utd's Champions League defeat

Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand have made their feelings clear on Erik ten Hag's future at Manchester United.

The Red Devils were on the receiving end of a 4-3 defeat to FC Copenhagen on Wednesday, as they suffered their third loss in four Champions League appearances this season.

As a result, United dropped to the bottom of Group A, as Erik ten Hag's hopes of sealing qualification took a major hit.

However, former United duo Ferdinand and Scholes have pledged their allegiance to the manager, believing that now is the time to stick by the Dutchman.

"I think you have to stick with the manager but it's a poor result. It's a really bad result," Ferdinand told TNT Sports after the game.

Meanwhile, Scholes suggested that Ten Hag did enough last season to justify his position this term.

"I still don't feel like there's that much pressure on him," the Englishman explained. "He had a good year, he's bought a little time in that respect, he's had bad injuries, but nine defeats in 17 games is not good enough.

"I know managers have been sacked in that second or third year. I don't think we can afford to do it anymore. I think we've got to let this fella go with it. I think he's been good up to this point.

"He's got a bit unlucky tonight with the sending-off. They're going to play better teams than Copenhagen but I thought there was a little bit of fight there tonight, just lacking leadership. Maybe if Casemiro was in there things might be different.

Scholes added: "Just a little bit of discipline and lack of concentration [was lacking]. Tiredness does affect your concentration. Dalot lost concentration and the next goal was a mistake. It's just that collapsing, it's hurting them at the moment.

"Once they concede one it seems like the second one is coming and they can't win games if that's going to happen every week."
