Mohamed Salah confesses to being ‘obsessed’ with an unusual hobby most footballers absolutely hate

Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah has revealed he is addicted to an unusual hobby outside of football.

Since joining Liverpool from Roma back in 2017 for a reported fee of £34.3 million, Salah has developed into one of the best players in world football.

Over the years, Salah has been undoubtedly Liverpool’s most important player as he played a key role in the Reds’ Premier League and Champions League triumphs.

Ahead of Saturday’s crucial clash against league leaders Manchester City, Salah revealed to Sky Sports that he is addicted to playing chess.

The Egyptian said: “I play chess, I am addicted to chess. Every day, literally every day.”

Salah went on to reveal he plays against random people online, he said: “I put my name and some numbers so some people they ask ‘are you Mo Salah’, i say ‘yes’, they don’t believe it and say ‘you are lying’, I say ‘yes I’m lying.’”

When asked if he is good at chess, the Liverpool forward replied: “I’m good, I’m not Magnus(Carlsen) but I’m good. No one has a chance with Magnus.”

Salah's love for chess was on show during the summer transfer window in which he was heavily linked with a move to Saudi Professional League side Al Ittihad. The forward posted an Instagram story of him playing chess whilst the rumours of him leaving Liverpool were at an all-time high.

Salah was also asked to name a dream teammate that he had never played with.

He replied: “Messi or Ronaldo, but if I pick one in the Premier League I choose Kevin.

“He has vision and I’m sure he can find me anywhere with the ball so I would say Messi or Ronaldo or Kevin.”

He continued: “He is a great player but the whole team is great. But I just try to play my name and not focus on anyone else.”

Speaking about Liverpool’s forward options prior to the match, City boss Pep Guardiola said: “The way we play, for them it’s good because of the transitions. They have a lot of space in behind.

“They make incredible runs with [Luis] Diaz, with [Darwin] Nunez, with [Mo] Salah. They are a fantastic team, a top side, no doubt.”
