Mason Greenwood sends message to fans after scoring wonder goal for Getafe

Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has sent a message to his supporters on social media after scoring an incredible goal on loan at Getafe.

Greenwood, 22, joined the Spanish club on a season-long loan in the final hours of the summer transfer window.

It followed a decision by United that Greenwood would continue his career away from Old Trafford following an internal investigation into his behaviour.

Greenwood was initially suspended by United in January 2022 after being arrested and later charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour and assault.

All charges against Greenwood were dropped in February after key witnesses withdrew their involvement in the case and new material came to light during the police investigation.

In a club statement released in August, United announced that their own investigation into Greenwood had found that he "did not commit the offences in respect of which he was originally charged" but also confirmed he would leave Old Trafford.

He subsequently joined Getafe on loan and has since scored four goals and provided three assists in 10 games for the La Liga side.

Greenwood scored arguably the best goal of his career so far to help his side come from behind to beat Almeria on Saturday.

With Getafe trailing 1-0, Greenwood picked up the ball on the right wing and cut inside before lashing an unstoppable finish into the top corner.

Getafe went on to win the match 2-1 and are now eighth in La Liga.

Greenwood took to social media after the match to send a message to his supporters.

"Happy to win and score my first goal at the Coliseum vamos," he wrote on Instagram, alongside an image of his strike.

It was his first update on Instagram since he posted an image of his Nike shoe collection, forcing the manufacturer to clarify their relationship with the player.

Nike sponsored Greenwood earlier in his career but dropped him following his arrest in 2022.

After his social media post prompted fans to speculate that Nike had agreed to sponsor him again, the American company issued a statement clarifying that was not the case.

"Mason Greenwood is no longer a Nike athlete," read the statement, via The Sun.
