Man Utd could be forced to let Alejandro Garnacho play for Argentina at U20 World Cup before season finishes

Manchester United are set to be without youngster Alejandro Garnacho for the final weeks of their season with the 18-year-old expected to be picked to play for Argentina at this summer's FIFA U20 World Cup.

The World Cup winners' U20s side hadn't yet qualified for the tournament until automatically qualifying when Argentina replaced Indonesia as the competition's host nation.

With this summer's championships set to start on 20 May with the final scheduled for 11 June, the winger will have to depart for international duty before the season ends with United's final Premier League game at home to Fulham set to be played on May 28.

Additionally, Erik ten Hag's men could also see themselves with two other fixtures beyond this point should they reach the finals of the Europa League (31 May) and FA Cup (3 June).

Garnacho had been expected to be called up to the senior side for the international break but suffered an ankle injury against Southampton earlier this month which subsequently sidelined the youngster.

With the Argentinian's return date from injury still unknown, the process is now a waiting game depending on whether he will recover in time for the tournament, given that clubs are forced to allow their youngsters to compete at the competition, according to Bolavip.

Moreover, there is very little doubt that Garnacho would be selected should he be fit in time given the youngster's excellent record of four goals in four caps for Argentina's under-20s.

This would hinder the 18-year-old contribution to his club's task of qualifying for the Champions League as well as adding two more trophies to this season's collection having won the League Cup already.

Having signed from La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid last summer, the young wide man has had an excellent breakthrough campaign at Old Trafford, making 29 appearances for the Red Devils and scoring four goals whilst providing a further five assists.
