Damning report reveals why Manchester City are letting Joao Cancelo leave for Bayern Munich

Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo is heading to Bayern Munich on loan after a heated training ground-bust up with Pep Guardiola.

The shock news was reported on Monday and the Portugal international has since landed in Munich to undergo a medical with the Bavarian giants.

The deal is a loan but Bayern have the option to sign the former Juventus and Valencia man for £61 million.

It's come as a huge surprise given City allowed Oleksandr Zinchenko to leave in the summer and appear a little light in the full-back areas going into the business end of the season.

But the Daily Mail have further information on the Cancelo situation and how his swift exit has come about.

According to the newspaper, Cancelo reacted angrily to being left out of the starting XI for the FA Cup fourth round win over Arsenal on Friday night.

It was the third straight game where the full-back was an unused substitute, with Nathan Ake playing from the off and scoring the winning goal.

Cancelo has been unhappy with his lack of minutes of late, having only played a full match on two occasions since his red card against Fulham in November.

The 28-year-old is said to have been vocal about his frustrations and disruptive to the rest of the City squad as a result.

The report claims Cancelo threatened to leave the club and having seen his relationship with Guardiola get to the point where it is "beyond repair" following on from the World Cup, City were happy to let him move on when the Bayern opportunity was mentioned.

City are said to be looking at potential replacements but will make that more of a priority in the summer as they feel they have sufficient options in Ake, Sergio Gomez and Aymeric Laporte if a new addition does not arrive.

The Premier League champions paid £55 million to sign Cancelo from Juventus in 2019 and he has gone on to make 154 appearances, winning two Premier League titles.
