A-League team shocked as Sir Alex Ferguson randomly turns up to their training session

Macarthur FC players were in for a shock when legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson made a surprise visit to their training session.

The former Manchester United boss was visiting Bulls coach and former player Dwight Yorke.

And while the ex-Red Devils striker had a heads up that the Scotsman was visiting, the Macarthur players had no idea and were full of shock when they glanced over to see Fergie standing on the sideline.

Imagine going about your normal training session and the greatest of all-time just rocks up to watch you train.

I’d imagine there were a fair few more bicycle kicks and rainbow flicks than a usual training session.

The A-League stars were puzzled when a message reading ‘Welcome Sir Alex Ferguson’ appeared on the big screen before the 80-year-old strolled out.

It's believed that Fergie, who is a massive fan of horse racing, is in Australia for both the Golden Eagle and Melbourne Cup next week.

As for Yorke, his old boss’s appearance served as the perfect ploy for some added motivation.

He told reporters: “It’s a wonderful surprise to all of us – he didn’t have to be here.

“He got in contact with me and said he will be in Sydney. (It’s) very gracious for him to be visiting our stadium here in Campbelltown.

“I thought it might have been a problem, considering his age. Obviously, he’s in good nick. He was happy to make the journey from the city, which is a long journey.”

"We're looking for a little bit of a pick-us-up – not that we're in a bad spot – but they don't come much bigger than Sir Alex being here, and I'm very lucky and privileged that I still have that relationship with him.

“How often do you have someone of his talent come into this part of the world?"

Dwight Yorke famously won the treble with Manchester United in 1999 with Fergie at the helm.

Macarthur FC signals his first stint in management, and it’s safe to say he’s had quite the role model in that position.

Macarthur star Daniel De Silva revelled in the opportunity to meet one of the greats and explained how surprised he and his teammates were, as per Wide World of Sports.

"Honestly, I just saw the banner on the big screen there. And then I was thinking, 'What's all that about?'" he said.

"And then obviously, I looked over, and I saw him. It's obviously a fantastic thing to have him here at the club, probably the greatest manager of all time. Fantastic experience to meet him.

"We'll go home and tell family and friends ... it's something I never thought would happen."
