Premiership rugby final between Saracens and Sale Sharks interrupted by two protestors

Just Stop Oil protestors made their presence felt at the Premiership rugby final by invading the pitch during the clash between Saracens and Sale Sharks.

A pair of individuals involved in the climate crisis group breached the pitch at Twickenham in the first half and let of orange smoke bombs.

The scenes were visible live on ITV, who broadcasted the showpiece. The duo were uphended by Sale players Tom Curry and Jono Ross, who escorted them away before stadium stewards got involved.

It meant there wasn't an extensive stoppage and unlike what happened at football and snooker, two other sports Just Stop Oil have successfully targeted, action resumed minutes later.

The group took to Twitter to share footage and explain the actions, writing: "TIME TO TACKLE THE CLIMATE CRISIS. Two supporters of Just Stop Oil took to the field in today's rugby premiership final.

"We will continue to take disruptive action until this government stops new fossil fuels."

The score was 6-6 at the time of the interruption and boos loudly rang out in west London.

Mark Allen was facing Fan Zhengyi and the other fixture saw Robert Milkins and Joe Perry play against one another on day three of the tournament.

One activist was apprehended by the referee Olivier Marteel as they tried to attach themselves to the table but a second climbed on top of the table and orange powder was chucked onto the table.
