Former POTUS Donald Trump has claimed the win for a golf club championship despite reportedly missing half of the tournament.
And we all know it’s certainly not like Donald Trump to bend the truth.
The 76-year-old claimed victory in the Senior Club Championship at his own Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach.
He took to his own social media platform Truth Social to reveal the news and ‘graciously’ brag about his win.
He wrote: “A great honour to have won the Senior Club Championship at Trump International Golf Club, one of the best courses in the Country, in Palm Beach, Florida.
“Competed against many fine golfers, and was hitting the ball long and straight.
“The reason that I announce this on fabulous TRUTH is that, in a very real way, it serves as a physical exam, only MUCH tougher.
“You need strength and stamina to WIN, and I have strength and stamina – most others don’t. You also need strength & stamina to GOVERN!”
However, Daily Mail reports that while the competition was held over Saturday and Sunday the 45th President of the United States actually didn’t turn up on Saturday.
He was attending the funeral for the vlogger and avid Trump supporter Diamond.
But as the publication reports, other competitors turned up on Sunday to find Trump’s name on the top of the leaderboard with a five-point lead over the overnight leader.
I mean, if you’re competing in a Trump-run competition I think you could expect a few shenanigans.
Apparently, he had told the organisers that he played a stellar round of golf on Thursday and that that would count as his first day’s score.
Of course, he did.
Players reportedly shrugged it off half expecting this sort of thing to happen and settled for playing for second place on Sunday.
It’s not the first time Trump has been accused of bending the rules on the golf course.
In fact, there’s a whole book about it by sportswriter Rick Reily - Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump.
Within the book, he wrote: “To say ‘Donald Trump cheats’ is like saying ‘Michael Phelps swims’.
“He cheats at the highest level. He cheats when people are watching and he cheats when they aren’t. He cheats whether youlike it or not. He cheats because that’s how he plays golf … if you’re playing golf with him, he’s going to cheat.”
SPORTbible reached out to Donald Trump’s office for comment.
