Liverpool 'pushing' to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai

Liverpool are 'ready to push' ahead with a move for RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, according to reports.

Jurgen Klopp is keen to bring in midfield recruits this summer following the departures of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Naby Keita.

In turn, Szoboszlai has been linked with a move to Anfield after the 22-year-old impressed in the Bundesliga last season, netting 10 goals and providing 13 assists across 46 appearances in all competitions.

It is claimed that the Hungary international has a €70million (£60million) release clause attached to his RB Leipzig contract.

And a deal could be further complicated once Szoboszlai’s release clause expires, with reports in Germany claiming that will be after June 30.

However, there is now a growing belief that Liverpool could reach a deal with the Bundesliga side.

David Ornstein of The Athletic has provided a positive update on the situation, claiming: "In the past 24 hours and Liverpool appear to have been given confidence that it is possible."

Newcastle have also expressed an interest in Szoboszlai but have since withdrawn from the race, leaving the path clear for Liverpool to sign him.

The report marks a major U-turn from Ornstein's previous update, in which he explained that there is 'an acceptance within the club' that it will be a 'very difficult get a deal done'.

Szoboszlai has previously praised Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and has said it would be a 'special experience' to work under the German.

Speaking to Hungarian YouTube channel Csisztu in 2020, the Hungary international said (via Liverpool.com): "I really like Klopp. The kind of human being he is.

"The way he can inspire his players is unbelievable. Even when they have nothing, they can stand up and his players can achieve anything. For me he is the best manager [in the world]."

He later told Index (via Liverpool Echo): "It would certainly be a special experience to work under Klopp. As it would be under [Manchester City boss Pep] Guardiola or [Roma head coach] Jose Mourinho.

"I don't know what they would be able to get out of me. Relatively few footballers are given all this (opportunity), however. Only the best. I believe I can reach that level, and it would be great to work with any of them one day."
