'How am I unemployed?' - Former Spurs defender Danny Rose went in at half-time of Newcastle game

Danny Rose gave a damning assessment of Tottenham's first-half performance against Newcastle by saying, "All I've been thinking of first half is...how am I unemployed?".

The 32-year-old defender, who made 214 appearances for Spurs during a 14-year spell in North London, was on punditry duty for Sunday's Premier League clash at St James Park.

He watched on as goals from Jacob Murphy [2], Joelinton and Alexander Isak [2] handed the home side an unprecedented five-goal lead after just 21 minutes.

And during the half-time break, former Leeds, Sunderland and Watford full-back Rose, who is currently a free agent, delivered some no-nonsense analysis of Spurs' defensive woes. Check it out below.

Rose points out that there was "so many mistakes" in that opening 45 minutes from a Spurs perspective.

He then told Sky Sports: "All I've been thinking of first half is... how am I unemployed?" – a brutal comment that brought a flood of reaction from fans on social media.

One commented on the video, saying: "Who does he think he is," while another wrote: "Brilliant from Rose. Here’s someone that gets it."

A third added: "Another ‘Spurs’ pundit who’s number one character trait is an unconditional hatred of Spurs."

A section of Tottenham fans were actually spotted leaving St James' Park after just 10 minutes during their first-half capitulation.

Jacob Murphy fired top four hopefuls Newcastle ahead after just 61 seconds on Sunday afternoon when he pounced on a Hugo Lloris parry.

Four minutes later, in-form midfielder Joelinton, who played a key role in their opener, rounded Lloris with ease before slotting away to make it two.

And a matter of minutes later, after some great pressing from the Newcastle forward line, Murphy bagged his brace with a wonderful effort from range.

After the score went from 2-0 to 3-0 in the ninth minute, a number of Spurs fans had seen enough. In fact, a large group were filmed leaving the stadium, just 25 minutes after kick-off.
