Cole Palmer has 'secret' contract clause that will force Chelsea to pay another fee if he plays for England

Chelsea will be forced to pay another fee if Cole Palmer makes his England debut.

The 21-year old has been called up to Gareth Southgate's senior squad for the first time after an impressive start to life at Chelsea.

Palmer has scored four times for the Blues ever since making a £40 million switch from Manchester City on deadline day.

All four strikes have been from the penalty spot, the latest of which came against former side City in Sunday's thrilling 4-4 draw.

Palmer was expected to be with the Under 21's but he, City's Rico Lewis and Aston Villa's Ezra Konsa have been drafted in following injuries to the likes of Callum Wilson and James Maddison.

Having already qualified for Euro 2024, England take on Malta and North Macedonia and Palmer will be desperate to get his opportunity.

And if he does, The Sun, City are set to profit as it's claimed a secret clause was placed in his seven-year Chelsea deal.

Chelsea will have to pay a small fee as agreed upon, with the majority of the £2.5 million add-ons made up by achievements at Stamford Bridge - including appearances, goals and silverware.

Palmer was an integral part of the side which won the Under 21 Euros in the summer and has been tipped to make the senior side in Germany's tournament by former England international Jamie Carragher.

The playmaker is actually eligible to play for Caribbean nation St Kitts and Nevis, ranked 147th in the world, through his father Jermaine.

But the Wythenshawe-born youngster has always stressed that his priority would be to play for his birth country.

"There’s people over there that have talked about it but not properly,” he told SPORTbible in an exclusive interview.

“The target is for England but if things don’t work out you never know.”
