Bruno Fernandes opens up on how Man Utd dressing room reacted to devastating Copenhagen defeat

Bruno Fernandes delivered a bleak insight into the mood inside Manchester United's dressing room after they suffered another Champions League defeat.

Goals from Mohamed Elyounoussi, Diogo Goncalves, Lukas Lerager and Roony Bardghji sealed a dramatic 4-3 win for Danish side Copenhagen.

Erik ten Hag's side, who sit bottom of the the tightly-contested Group A, crumbled after Marcus Rashford received a controversial straight red card for a first-half challenge on Elias Jelert.

It has been a challenging start to the 2023/24 campaign for United, and a damning stat emerged shortly after Wednesday's final whistle.

According to Opta, the club have lost as many as nine of their opening 17 matches of a season in all competitions for the first time since 1973-74, which was the last season they were relegated.

Shortly after their latest defeat, captain Bruno Fernandes was asked about the atmosphere inside United's dressing room.

"Disappointment," he told MUTV. "I think for everything we did in the game, we could and should have gotten something.

"It is difficult at the moment, obviously, and the mood is not the best because I think we fought so hard with ten men that even from then on it was playing against a team that plays really well on the ball, and as a part of that, many decisions went against us.

"Today was a tough day but I think the team effort was good. We tried. We could have done some things better, but it was difficult for us from thirty minutes on, playing with one player less."

After such a disappointing lapse after taking a two-goal lead, Fernandes gave a spirited response to their current situation in Europe.

He added: "Even before this game, that was still the belief: to win the last three games of the group stage. And now we have to. We have to win them. If we want to stay in the Champions League and stay in the best competition, we have to win against the best.

"We have a really tough game away against Galatasaray and after we play against the top of the group. We want to win both, but now we have to focus on Luton, because it is going to be a tough game again. We need three points in the league and we need to get back to the winning track after this defeat."
