Barcelona legend Gerard Pique aims dig at 'inferior' Real Madrid as brutal Champions League claim made

Barcelona legend Gerard Pique has aimed a brutal dig at Real Madrid, dismissing their most recent Champions League win.

Pique is Barca through and through, having come through the La Masia academy before becoming a first-team regular following a brief spell at Manchester United.

Prior to his sudden retirement in 2022, the Spain international racked up over 600 appearances for Barca and won three Champions Leagues.

He won two under Pep Guardiola, before lifting a third under Luis Enrique in the 2014/15 treble-winning campaign.

Barca haven't tasted European glory since then, with Real tasting victory on four different occasions since then to amass an incredible 14 European Cups.

Their most recent win came in 2022 when they beat Liverpool 1-0 in Paris but Pique has launched quite the attack on Los Blancos, claiming that no-one remembers that victory.

"We are in a country where there are more people from Madrid than from Barça and it is the capital, we will always be the ones who are on the side and try to bother," he told RAC1, as per AS.

"We don't have to enter these wars and make our way, which is closely linked to theirs due to rivalry, but I would try to focus on who we are.

"The current Madrid is more of the same, it transmits little but they get results and in February they will be alive in all competitions and in the Champions League we will see.

"When we win, we are remembered forever, when they win, it is one more. The last one, which was a miracle because they were inferior in each round and no one will remember it.”

Pique has never been afraid of dissing Real publicly and has accused referees of favouring them in the past.

Real beat Barca in the first El Clasico of the season courtesy of a Jude Bellingham brace but it is Girona who are ahead of both sides after taking 31 points from their first 12 games.
