Andre Onana pulls out of Cameroon squad as 'sources' confirm severity of injury

It appears Manchester United fans have received a positive update on the condition of Andre Onana after he suffered a shoulder injury while on international duty.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper was replaced in the 81st minute of Cameroon's World Cup qualifier against Mauritius on Friday.

Onana, who has since pulled out of Cameroon's squad for Tuesday's clash with Libya, suffered the shoulder injury in Douala as he made a save.

Cameroon officials did not give any details relating to the knock but Fabrizio Romano has appeared to play down the seriousness of the injury by describing the situation as "optimistic".

"It’s a shoulder problem but doesn’t look like a serious one," he wrote on X.

Onana, who has made 20 appearances in all competitions this season, is expected to be fit for Manchester United's upcoming game against Everton on November 26.

That being said, the former Ajax goalkeeper could miss a handful of games for United next year, when he joins up with the Cameroon squad for their Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

AFCON will kick-off on January 13th and end on February 11th, meaning he will miss four Premier League games against Spurs, Wolves, West Ham and Aston Villa.

Onana could also be absent from United's FA Cup third round clash tie that's set to take place on the weekend of January 6-7, based on whether he gets an early call-up to feature in Cameroon's pre-tournament camp.

Erik ten Hag must have breathed a sigh of relief after hearing the latest news about Onana's injury.

Earlier this week, Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund were forced to withdraw from Denmark’s squad for their upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Slovenia and Northern Ireland.

Eriksen picked up a knee injury and is reportedly facing a month out while Hojlund suffered a minor muscle strain.

Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Casemiro, Tyrell Malacia and Jonny Evans are also on the sidelines, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka missed their most recent Premier League win over Luton.
