Alejandro Garnacho's overhead kick is even better with Peter Drury commentary, it hits different

Peter Drury delivered a commentary masterclass when Alejandro Garnacho scored a goal of the season contender in Manchester United's 3-0 win over Everton.

A quite audacious overhead kick from Garnacho gave Erik ten Hag's side an early lead at Goodison Park.

In the second minute, full-back Diogo Dalot crossed from deep with a wayward effort but the Argentine managed to adjust his body and meet the pass with an acrobatic volley.

Garnacho's effort sailed past Jordan Pickford and the teenager, slightly taken aback by the strike, looked on in shock – as did thousands inside the stadium.

Rob Hawthorne and Gary Neville did a superb job on commentary throughout Sunday's clash for Sky Sports, as did Peter Drury, who was working alongside Lee Dixon on NBC-owned USA Today.

Drury, who replaced Martin Tyler as Sky Sports' lead Premier League commentator ahead of the 2023/24 season, was viewed as a 'natural successor' to the 78-year-old.

And although his commentary style has somewhat divided opinion amongst fans, I'm sure we can all agree that his reaction to Garnacho's effort on Sunday night was a work of art.

Gary Neville's reaction to the goal in the Goodison Park commentary booth was also priceless. “He can’t believe it, Garnacho. I can’t believe it," he said.

"I don’t think I’ve ever been in a stadium to see an overhead kick as good as that - and I was there for Rooney’s in the Manchester derby. That was unbelievable. A magical, magical goal.”

John Murray, who was commentating for BBC Radio 5 Live on Sunday, was also in shock after witnessing the Puskas award contender.

“Memories there, some of the great goals that we’ve seen scored. I’m thinking Mark Hughes, I’m thinking Wayne Rooney, the famous goal that he scored in the Manchester derby, that was right up there with that," he said.

“It was acrobatic, spectacular I think it’s one of the best goals I’ve seen live.”

United went on to secure all three points as goals from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial wrapped up their third consecutive Premier League win. They now sit sixth in the league table, just two points behind Spurs.

Was it the best overhead kick in Premier League history? If not, what was? Let us know in the comments.
